Failover VM's Servers all grouping together under one server?

$

When I add VM server's to high availability using the wizard in the failover cluster manager. They all add under the first server that I add instead off in the top section individually as roles ( See Screenshot ) Ignore partially running, one VM is currently in an off state.

Screenshot
http://i57.tinypic.com/2wgt6p0.jpg

From what I see of other sample setups this isn't normal and they appear individually under roles and we can't migrate individual serves to another node.

The server is setup 2x server, with 1 SAN CSV, and is setup successfully as a failover cluster.

Cluster dies when 3rd node is on

Hi,

At work we have 3 servers within a cluster (Windows Server 2012 R2). On Monday the cluster failed and started to live migrate boxes to servers which were rebooting. We had a major site outage, where our proxy, exchange and lync went down. In the Failover Cluster Manager all the virtuals were stuck saying "loading", the only console which was working properly was "Hyper-V Manager". . We managed to get everything back up by rebooting each server to allow it to install Windows Updates.

On Tuesday, we had a similiar outage which was caused by one of the servers trying to take ownership of a store. The cluster then went into a "zombie state", which only occurred when the 3rd node was on. We now have a option where we can evict the node from the cluster and add it back in.

Any ideas why this might have happened?

Windows 2003 File Share 4 node Cluster: Does Cluster Resources need to be brought offline prior removing / unmapping any LUN's from SAN end?

Hello All,

Recently, on a 4 node Windows 2003 File Share Cluster, we encountered a problem where when trying to remove few shares (that were no longer in use) directly from SAN end crashed the entire Cluster (i.e., other shares also lost their SAN connectivity). I suppose the Cluster resources need to be brought offline prior removing it from SAN but I've been advised that these shares were not the root and instead a 'mount point' created within the share; and hence there is no need of bringing down any Cluster resources offline.

Please can someone comment on the above and provide me detailed steps as to how we go about reclaiming SAN space from specific shares on a W2003 Cluster?

p.s., let me know if you need any additional information.

Thanks in advance.

How to schedule Cluster logs to be generated for Microsoft Failover Clusters 2008 R2

Hi, As per my understanding we always have to generate Cluster logs manually on the cluster nodes to get these generated.

Is there any way we can schedule Cluster Logs to be generated every time so that it would be easy for us to analyze the issue?

The file cannot be opened because it is in the process of being deleted

Hi,

I'm cleaning up a Hyper-V Cluster WS2012R2.  There is only 1 node the cluster for the moment.  All VMs have been moved to another cluster already except for 2.  When I try to delete them I get the msg "The file cannot be opened because it is in the process of being deleted".

I want to destroy the cluster but I can't because the 2 VMs aren't removed yet.  I have tried to remove them via powershell "Remove-ClusterGroup VMName" , this results in an error: The object has been deleted from the cluster.

How can I remove the 2 remaining VMs?

Inexplainable 2008 Failover Cluster Issues

Hi,

We have a 2008 Failover Node & Disk Majority SQL 2005 cluster.

There are 2 nodes in the cluster with 2008 Ent 64-bit SP2 installed.

At around 00:20 each morning we see various FailoverClustering errors in the event logs on both servers.

EventID: 1135, 1069, 1177

Before the FailoverClustering events are seen, 2 informational events appear regarding the 'Microsoft Failover Clustering Virtual Adapater'

EventID: 4201 'The system detected that network adapter Local Area Connection* 9 was connected to the network, and has initiated normal operation.'

This is causing the resources to failover to the secondary node.

I have run the Cluster Validation Wizard and everything passes. I have disabled the Windows Firewall service on both nodes.

We are presenting the storage via NetApp and the nodes have 3 nics installed

NIC1 - Server Vlan - Speed/Duplex Set to 1000Mb Full
NIC2 - Storage Vlan - Speed/Duplex Set to 1000Mb Full
NIC3 - Heartbeat - Speed/Duplex Set to 100Mb Full

Please can anyone help me troubleshoot these issues ?

Thanks

Scott

i want to move all the cluster group from node to node 1 in a single command line. As of now, I'm using three commands since I have three groups in my cluster server.

Cluster Group "Cluster Group" /MOVETO:RDN2

Cluster Group "Available Storage" /MOVETO:RDN2

Cluster Group "Application" /MOVETO:RDN2

Someone please help me with the single command. I tried using below but it shows error.

C:\Windows\system32>Cluster Group /MOVETO:RDN2

System error 5013 has occurred (0x00001395).
The cluster group could not be found.

Cluster Name and Resources DNS update interval

Hi!

I'm wondering if it is possible to change the default DNS update interval for a cluster name and it's resources?

As far as I can find out, it updates DNS every 24 hours if it's idle.

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/clustering/archive/2009/07/17/9836756.aspx

I know that I could create a "schedule task" With a PowerShell script and run:
get-cluster | Get-ClusterResource | ? {$_.resourceType -like "Network Name" -or $_.ResourceType -like "Distributed Network Name"} | Update-ClusterNetworkNameResource

But I'm wondering if there is some paramters I can change? I can not find any parameters With the get-clusterparameter cmdlet.

Thanks

Anders

Connection Broker session information

Hello

I was wondering if it was possible to view the active sessions or monitor the session information of the Connection Broker. The Connection Broker decides on the server on which the client can connect and save this information in case they disconnect, so they can be redirect to the same server when they log in again.

Can this information be viewed?

Thank you

Hyper-V Cluster with Storage Server AH

Hello Everyone,

I have a question about Clustering&Storage.

I have two servers and what I wanted to do is:

-A cluster of 2 nodes

-The Storage directly on the Nodes

-The storage AH

I don't want a third server as Storage because, if the storage server fail the cluster will stop.

I wanted to know if it is possible to create a 2 node cluster with built-in Storage, so that if NODE1 fail, the VM or Data ar still available on NODE2.

Adding a shared folder in Failover Cluster Manager: Error "This shared resources does not exist"

Hello,

I have 2 Windows 2008 R2 Ent server in a File Cluster.  On one of the empty LUN's (my F: drive) I have just restored 1TB folder called "user" (using Backup Exec 12.5) within that folder are 100's of user folders.  I have just gone to the Failover Cluster Manager to share this folder and I get the message:

"\\cluster-name\user: Flags for SMB shared folder cannot be configured.  This shared resource does not exist"

Now if I create an empty folder on the F: drive called "users123" for example and go through the same process it will share, with no problems.

I've just looked at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947051 but don't understand the resolution, can anyone help?

Node in Cluster drops NIC connection. Troubleshooting steps?

Hey all,

Having a Node that occasionally has its NIC disconnect on us (about once a month).  We get nothing but the Event ID 1127 stating that the network interface fails.  Its a NIC team and I've checked the driver/firmware versions of the NIC and the NIC team software, as well as the configuration on each and they are all identical on this Node and the working Node.

I've read someplace that the NIC Power Saving setting needs to be unchecked so the NIC doesn't go to sleep but in Windows 2008 (non-R2) I'm not finding that option anywhere on these NICs to check it.

I'm wondering if anyone could check out the Cluster log and see if they notice anything obvious and have any ideas that I can pursue for further troubleshooting:

Hello,

Pardon my ignorance.  What is the proper steps to force a fail over to the standby host in a cluster with two nodes?

My secondary host is the currently the active host for custer name. I would like to force it to fail to the primary, which is acting as a standby.  Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Am looking for a 2 node active passive SQL server clustering for testing purpose

I believe that for building a cluster we need a AD, DNS and DHCP and shared disk ..

I have searched in Internet and as of now I haven't found a complete solution for a SQL Server 2008 R2 fail over clustering

I have tried my self for building a SQL cluster with the available information in internet . But every time am getting one or  other error...

Could some one here help me here to find out a COMPLETE  solution for building a 2 node active passive SQL Server 2008 R2 fail over cluster.

Video links or step by step screen shot will be much appreciated.

Oracle VM virtual manager , and Starwind I have used to create a Windows cluster.

Dear All,

I already have CSV Volumes in my Hyper-V Failover Cluster which is newly built.  Is there a way to test the storage through some stress tool like we use jetstress for exchange for different purpose?

Thanks in advance.

Failed VM in Failover Cluster Manager

We have a problem that seems to be caused by 3 VMs in our cluster that have failed.
The cluster is a server 2012 R2 cluster.

The VMs are not in Hyper-V anymore, but they still appear in the Failover Cluster Manager. We have tried removing each VM and we receive the following error message, "The file cannot be opened because it is in the process of being deleted."

We have tried moving the failed VM to another server in the cluster but receive the same message.

Is anyone aware of a way to manually delete a specific VM from a cluster or know a solution to our problem?

Thanks
